Getting the Most out of Florida's Natural Beauty
Florida is an incredible state filled to the brim with fun and exciting places to visit. Many people tend to focus on the big attractions like Universal Studios and Disney World. These are great parks to visit and enjoy, but sometimes you just want to get away from the crowds. Luckily, Florida is full of natural spectacle. Here are a few examples of incredible Florida locations you might not have heard about.
The St. Johns River
The St. Johns River is Florida's largest. Starting near Vero Beach and ending in the Atlantic Ocean, this river stretches more than 300 miles. Along the river, visitors can view serene white sand and green trees. You may also find many of the animals that call the river home. After a day of exploring, you can relax at one of the many riverside restaurants.
The Florida Reef
Being the only Barrier Reef in the continental United States, the Florida Reef is host to many unique sights. The Reef is home to more than 1,400 unique underwater plants and animals. If you feel like getting a little closer to the action, visitors can go sailing, fishing, and diving in the reef. If you go diving, you might even find one of many sunken ships!
The West Orange Trail
Stretching a staggering 34 Miles, the West Orange Trail is one of the best ways to take in Florida’s special scenery. Starting in Killarney and ending in Apopka, this trail has plenty of spots for people to hop on and off the trail. Besides plenty of fauna, the trail also has playgrounds, animal sanctuaries, butterfly gardens, and restaurants. Perhaps best of all, the trail is open to many different modes of transportation.; you can walk, run, bike, or roller blade. You can even find shops along the trail that are full of gear for cyclists, runners, and rollerbladers.
Lake Okeechobee
Being one of the biggest lakes in the country, Lake Okeechobee can make for a great place to spend the day or the weekend. The lake is conveniently located away from Florida's many expressways as to preserve its calm serenity. Visitors can sit by the water, hike the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, or do a little fishing. This can be a great spot to slow down and take in Florida's crystal clear water and lush green forests.
