My Experience (so far) as the UCF Art and Drawing Club Secretary.

Some how during its 50 plus year run the University of Central Florida did not have an Art Club(we do have an Art History Club though), until this year. What started as a group of like minded artists meeting in a dorm common room slowly but surely went through the proper channels to form a real (student government approved) club. I discovered the club on a Reddit post asking if anyone would be interested in an art club. Being a new artist with few friends I jumped at the chance, and became a founding member. When the time came to elect officers for the club I put my hat in the ring for a chance to be club secretary. I thought it would be a good way to build important skills for my future in the business world as well as help the club grow. My early jobs included making an inventory and helping to secure funding from UCF. Later on I was given control of the social media pages along with the club email. Everything started out great and I learned a lot. Once meetings began I became a much better public speaker. Unfortunately things behind the scenes were not going so well. The officers did not get along very well. this all culminated with the clubs Vice President and Creative Coordinator quitting at the same time (this happened 5 minutes before a club event). This led to a great deal of extra work for the remaining officers, and in the present time leaves the clubs future in flux. All of this being said I am really glad I joined the club and became an officer. Being forced to talk in front of people and interact with members has done wonders for my public speaking ability and my self confidence. It is a lot of work, but so is a real job, and seeing the fun members are having at events really is a stupendous feeling . I truly hope the club lasts long after I have left UCF, and I certainly hope I can help it reach a point where it no longer needs me.
